Maximize Fillet Weld Inspection Productivity

Acknowledging the physical challenges associated with inspecting carbon steel fillet welds, the ACFM fillet weld array probe features a simplistic design with no moving parts which is crucial for minimizing potential downtime. It sets a new standard for fast and cost-effective inspections. The ACFM probe features a sensor arrangement that simultaneously covers the weld toes, cap, and heat-affected zones, providing full coverage in a single pass. Compared to conventional ACFM inspections, this approach boosts inspection productivity by a factor of three.

Efficient Crack Sizing Technology

Accurate information on crack length and depth is crucial for making informed decisions about asset integrity and optimizing repairs. The ACFM fillet weld array probe incorporates advanced 3Bz sizing technology, which eliminates the need to use a mechanical encoder or mark the surface to make manual measurements. By integrating two additional Bz sensors per ACFM element in the probe and utilizing a specialized software algorithm, accurate crack length and depth measurements are obtained during signal analysis. This innovative approach empowers informed decision-making, even on rugged, dirty surfaces and complex geometries.

Like the Name Says, Assist Software, Works For You

Eddyfi Technologies’ ACFM software, Assist, integrates an inspection planning function that allows for pre-programming complex component inspections. By listing the fillet welds to be inspected in an optimized sequence, it reduces inspection time and minimizes the risk of errors. Using a straightforward interface, the inspection sequence is programmed from a technical drawing of the component, making it ready for immediate use. During inspection, simply select the component and follow the inspection plan using the ACFM probe’s buttons. This streamlined approach ensures user comfort, enhances productivity, and improves the efficiency of the entire fillet weld inspection process.

Control at Your Fingertips

The ACFM probe is equipped with ergonomic controls that facilitate all recurring operations during inspection. One crucial operation involves controlling the inspection sequence according to the predefined inspection plan. These actions can be performed directly on the probe, promoting user comfort and ergonomics while contributing to a more efficient and productive inspection.

Complete the Toolbox For Civil Structures Integrity Inspection

The ACFM galvanized steel, or GS, inspection solution is a significant milestone in the industry, providing the first truly effective method to assess fatigue cracks in galvanized steel structures. It ensures reliable crack detection and accurate length and depth sizing of cracks that penetrate conductive coatings up to 300μm thick. It can also detect fatigue cracks that develop underneath the coating, allowing for length and depth sizing after the coating is removed

Proven Hardware With Fresh Know-How

Drawing upon ACFM’s proven track record in structural weld inspections, the innovative GS inspection solution combines standard hardware with configurations specifically engineered for civil structure integrity assessment applications. The Amigo2 with any 5KHz single element ACFM Sensu 2 probe optionally includes the additional required parameters to detect and size cracks in galvanized steel. After conducting a preliminary assessment of the zinc coating’s condition and thickness, galvanized steel ACFM inspections follow a similar process to standard ACFM inspections. The usual inspection workflow is applied, using the configuration specifically designed for the more common case where fatigue cracks penetrate the coating.

To address the lower risk presented by cracks that may have developed under the coating, an additional scan can be performed using the configuration designed for such cases. For accurate length and depth sizing of these cracks, it is recommended to remove the conductive coating within a 50mm (2in) radius around the crack and employ a standard configuration.

Enhancing Inspection Capabilities at High Temperatures

Inspection of hot components often result in process disruptions necessitating either component cooling or reliance on conventional methods that are typically limited to a maximum of 300°C (572°F). With its wide coverage and low cleaning requirements, alternating current field measurement has proven to be an effective and non-intrusive inspection (NII) technology for welds, whether they are ferromagnetic or non-ferromagnetic, and while the hot components remain in service. Industrial welders can save time on welding interpass inspection, eliminating the need for extensive cooling processes. Critical operations such as hot tapping running pipes and inspections of hot vessels or piping systems are also possible without process modifications or shutdowns. The ACFM high temperature probe is specifically designed to detect and measure crack sizes in a single pass, even when the inspected component runs at temperatures reaching up to 500°C (932°F).

Innovative ACFM Probe Design

Eddyfi Technologies’ ACFM probe is equipped with an air-cooling device and proactive warnings to preserve the integrity of the probe at elevated temperatures while maintaining high productivity. The innovative design includes a probe nose that illuminates in vibrant red when probe cooling is required. This visual cue enables easy monitoring and ensures safe operation during high-temperature inspections.

The probe comes pre-loaded with factory calibrations tailored for high-temperature inspections, eliminating the need for on-site calibration on heated reference samples. Following a measurement of the inspected part temperature, the appropriate calibration can be selected in the probe setup parameters, ensuring practical, efficient inspections and accurate crack sizing at all temperatures ranging from 0°C (32°F) to 500°C (932°F).

The solution integrates state-of-the-art 3Bz sizing technology. Through the integration of two additional BZ sensors and a specialized software algorithm, an accurate estimation of crack length and depth can be achieved through signal analysis, eliminating the need for markings, or a mechanical encoder. This approach empowers informed decision-making regarding asset integrity and enables optimized repairs, even in the most demanding environments.
