Eddyfi once again pushes back the limits of pulsed eddy currents.
As a world leader in advanced electromagnetic inspection technologies, Eddyfi is proud to announce the release of Lyft™ software version 1.1. This major update comes with an electronics upgrade which dramatically improves the overall performance of the Lyft solution, allowing pulsed eddy current (PEC) to solve a broader range of applications.
The upgraded electronics and software enable the Lyft instrument to scan thicker metal (up to 64 mm or 2.5 in) and thicker insulation (up to 203 mm or 8 in). Moving forward, the system can also be used on smaller diameter pipes — as small as 25 mm (1 in). Several other new features were also added, such as a compensated wall thickness sizing tool, allowing for more accurate sizing of flaws smaller than the probe’s averaging area.
The inspection setup and configuration time is typically reduced by a factor of three compared to the previous version. This is the result of the improvements made to the SmartPULSE™ feature, which is designed to automate and optimize PEC inspection setups. Eddyfi also integrated several features following suggestions and lessons learned since the launch of the original Lyft solution six months ago. For example, the dynamic scanning mode (a PEC scanning method unique to Lyft) of version 1.1 is significantly superior compared with version 1.0, allowing for more flexible inspections.
The way PEC signals are processed was also thoroughly re-evaluated. Version 1.1 includes the new A-scan analysis method, which widens the scope of use of current Eddyfi PEC probes to new applications.
“Eddyfi is committed to improving PEC technology, ensuring that our customers are always leading their industries when it comes to asset integrity management. This new release, part of the Lyft software and service plan, is available to all our customers at no additional cost,” said Martin Turgeon, instruments and PEC product manager at Eddyfi. “We are thrilled to further improve the performance of our PEC solution in applications where it was already very successful. At the same time, we are also looking forward to opening new application avenues for our reinvented PEC solution.”
