When BroadSea ROV Ltd. of Fraserburgh, Scotland, was recently asked by a major operator in the North Sea to look at the problem of marine growth on the hull of an FPSO (floating production storage and offloading), they immediately looked at the range of Inuktun magnetic crawler vehicles.

Note that the Inuktun MaggUT™ and MaggUT™ - Marine are no longer offered, but don't worry! We've got even better miniature magnetic crawler solutions for you. Contact us to learn more!

When BroadSea ROV Ltd. of Fraserburgh, Scotland, was recently asked by a major operator in the North Sea to look at the problem of marine growth on the hull of an FPSO (floating production storage and offloading), they immediately looked at the range of Inuktun magnetic crawler vehicles available. Following the purchase of an Inuktun MaggUT™ - Marine (MUM) with the optional adjustable magnetic chassis, BroadSea mounted a Cavijet sprayer on the crawler and carried out a field demonstration of the system for their client. The system was deployed by one man and driven five metres down and 15 metres along the hull to an area for testing. The vehicle successfully removed a large area of kelp and was able to operate in air, underwater and in the splash zone.

“The Inuktun crawler was very easy to deploy and navigate to the test area. The fact that the vehicle is reconfigurable and can be fitted with different tools and sensors were important factors in the purchase of the system.”_ — Colin McKenzie, BroadSea ROV MD

Colin McKenzie, MD of BroadSea ROV, described their positive results. “The Inuktun crawler was very easy to deploy and navigate to the test area. The fact that the vehicle is reconfigurable and can be fitted with different tools and sensors were important factors in the purchase of the system.” Colin is now looking at the possibility of increasing productivity using larger Inuktun Minitracs™ to mount a twin lance Cavijet.

The MUM is equipped with a forward facing camera, two Inuktun Microtracs™, and an ultrasonic probe for thickness measurement. The optional pan-and-tilt Spectrum 45™ video camera and on-board lighting are well suited for close up examination of surface features including marine growth and corrosion. It has proven itself as the ideal solution for remote visual and ultrasonic inspection, while being easily adapted for other tools.

Inuktun Multi-Mission Modular (IM3™) technology continues to bring solutions to the marine industry that help eliminate costly and dangerous human interventions. Contact us to learn more about our adaptable technology can solve your remote inspection requirements.
