Our engineers, along with key technology partners, are finalizing a new ship hull cleaning robotic crawler for the commercial marine industry.

Based on the proven OnDemand MiniMag™ magnetic crawler, the remote cleaning system is being developed in partnership with Aquatech Solutions, LLC, utilizing their revolutionary Aqua-Cavi cleaning technology that can clean a ship hull without destroying its coating. The market ready vehicle is expected to be available Q3 2018.

With more than 52,000 ships in merchant fleets worldwide, including general cargo ships that carry 245.6 million tons of deadweight, the pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is enormous. Everybody recognizes that a clean ship hull is more efficient, but removing marine growth or biofouling is normally an expensive and time consuming manual process. And even though newly designed cargo ships are predicted to reduce carbon dioxide emissions 40 percent by 2040, they all still need to have clean hulls. IM3™ technology can help save time and reduce maintenance costs by enabling ship personnel to perform all the cleaning required, without having to enter dry dock or use teams of divers. Underwater Inspections in Lieu of Dry-Docking (UWILD) have become commonplace in the industry, using various different technologies; we see Underwater Cleaning of Hulls, in Lieu of Dry-Docking (let's call it "UCHILD") as the next big step.

At sea or in port (where allowable), deploying robots to do mechanical tasks like inspection and cleaning is a no-brainer that makes both economic and environmental sense.
